New York Life Building (1928) - New York City

The forty-story building, completed in 1928 is one of the most prominent structures built in New York City following World War I. By adding neo-gothic ornamentation to a setback skyscraper, Gilbert created a significant transition from the historic revival style skyscrapers of the early twentieth century to the sleek towers of the art deco period. The structure's golden pyramidal roof helps define the city's skyline.1
